Aaaaaaar - I Be Seein' Pirates Mateys

Since it is "talk like a pirate day" (yes, it really is) I thought some photos from Abby's pirate party would be good...

(Just so you know, when you live far from grandparents that means getting very few photos of your kid's birthday parties).

When kids arrived, they all got pirate costumes (you'll notice they didn't last long), then we played "pin the eyepatch on the pirate, then they decorated their "treasure boxes" (diaper wipes boxes Neil spent hours spray-painting gold the night before) with stick on jewels while I read them a pirate story. A treasure map just happened to fall out of the book I was reading, and we hunted for a treasure box, which they then beat with a baseball bat until candy and treasure came pouring out.

Abby's friends whacking the pinata - no I did not manage to get a photo of my own child hitting her own pinata!
Somehow the pirate party turned into a princess party! I think the other moms thought I was depriving her of girlyness because most of her presents involved dress-up clothes.

It was so much fun I think I'll wait another three years before doing it again!
